Review: Dead Rising Mobile for iPhone
*THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE*Dead Rising will only run on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4th, iPod touch 3rd 16GB and 32GB, or better. NOT COMPATIBLE to iPhone 3G, iPod touch 1st, 2nd, 3rd 8GB. ------------------------ Frank West, a freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime, pursues a juicy lead to a small suburban town only to find that it is being overrun by zombies! He escapes to the local shopping mall thinking it will be a bastion of safety, but it turns out to
Remains of the Day: Calm before the storm
It was a quiet Monday—too quiet, if you ask me. But don’t worry, there’s a storm coming, and it’s not just the 10 to 12 inches of snow about to drop on my hometown. There’s a Verizon iPhone potentially in the offing, a very busy Steve Jobs, and a hurricane of Mac App Store sales. The remainders for Monday, January 10, 2011 are feeling a little harried.

Otterbox shows off Reflex case for iPhone – TiPb at CES 2011
If the Otterbox Defender is like full plate armor when it comes to iPhone protection, and the Commuter is plate mail, then the newly announced Reflex is easy on, easy off, ultra modern kevlar.
Rather than layers of soft silicone and hard plastic, Reflex is a two part plastic shell that slides off when you want to dock and slides back on when you’re ready rock.
We got a look at it live at CES 2011, so check out the video and let us know what you think — old school Defender or new school

Monsoon has announced two new boxes, Volkano Flow and Volkano Blast along with apps to let you transport (“sling”) your home TV to your iPhone or iPad.
Flow is $ 99 and is barebones slinging. Blast is $ 199 and added DVR, schedule recordings, web video like YouTube, and mobile video recording (you pick your mobile device and it will record a TV show specifically for that format). The iPad and iPhone apps are $ 9.99 and the Windows and Mac apps are free.

iSkin takes SoloFX for iPhone to the next level – TiPb at CES 2011
iSkin isn’t content to let their SoloFX for iPhone series sit still — the 2011 model doesn’t just wrap around, it slides over for even more protection, and more good looks. They’re also continuing to push the envelop (i.e. case) when it comes to colors, textures, sparkle, and pizzaz.

Apple Store spotted covering up, but likely not for new iPhone
Hm, what product could make Apple cover the windows of a retail shop so soon after the holiday shopping season? Surely not the iPad 2. Maybe something that looks the same but works on a totally new network? You know, that Verizon iPhone that we've been hearing about for a few years now, perchance? Well, as it turns out, probably not.
The above pic and another one posted on Uneasy Silence by way of TwitPic (dated January 9, 2011) show retail employees deploying the big black shroud to cover

Dear Apple: It's (past) time to let us customize our alert tones
Picture this: you're hanging out at a friend's house, and the familiar "doodle-dee!" of the iPhone's Tri-tone alert sound goes off. But four people simultaneously start reaching for their iPhones, because they're all using that sound for SMS/MMS alerts. Or how about this: you're on a bike ride and getting audio feedback on your pace from RunKeeper Pro. As you ride along, you hear the Tri-tone alert go off half a dozen times. Is it someone sending you an important text message, or is it just

Native Union introduces Bluetooth handset and speakerphone for iPhones at CES
Native Union was at CES offering an intriguing lineup of handsets that'll turn your iPhone, iPad or even iPod touch into a more traditional handset-style phone. One model even morphs into a speaker for music or speakerphone. Unfortunately audio quality was tough to gauge at the noisy show floor, so we'll try to test these in a more controlled setting later. Here's a quick rundown of the Native Union lineup.

Boxee demonstrated on iPad at CES 2011
As soon as we heard that Boxee was demoing their iPad version at this year's CES conference, we had to hunt them down and see it. We found them over at Iomega's booth (stay tuned for a writeup of an Iomega product designed to help iPhone backups as well), and asked to see the app. It's about what you'd expect from a Boxee interface -- slick and clean, with four different options across the top. Friends videos are first, allowing you to tune in to any videos your friends have flagged on various
Hands-on with Sphero at the CES 2011
Sphero is this year's AR.Drone here in Las Vegas. Last year, the Parrot AR.Drone turned heads with an iPhone-controlled quadricopter, and this year, Sphero is creating a little buzz as an iPhone-controlled, well, ball. That's right -- the Sphero is a ball that both glows colors and rolls around at your iPhone or iPad's command. A company named Orbotix is working on releasing the ball sometime this year for no more than $ 100, and earlier this week at CES' ShowStoppers event, we got a chance
Verizon iPhone to go on sale late Jan/early Feb
The Wall Street Journal claims, according to a person familiar with the matter, that the Verizon iPhone that’s almost assuredly going to be announced this Tuesday will go on sale “around the end of the month”.
The Verizon phone will be similar to the iPhone 4 but run on the carrier’s CDMA technology, people familiar with the matter have said.
Sounds about right, if you want to leave enough time to build the marketing hype to preface Apple Store lineups and the rest of the fervour

iPhone: No longer exclusive, still locked
With the expected announcement and launch on Verizon this month, AT&T exclusivity will be over and the iPhone will finally be available on another US carriers — but it will still be locked.
Unlike most other countries where iPhone is available on multiple carriers, you won’t be able to go to an Apple store and pay full price for an unlocked iPhone you can use on any one of them — or any carrier around the world with a simple SIM swap. Verizon, being a CDMA rather than GSM carrier

iFrogz shows off cases and headphones at CES 2011
We stopped by the iFrogz booth at this week's CES 2011 here in Las Vegas to see the company's line of cases and headphones for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. We also got to hear some interesting behind-the-scenes information about the business of selling accessories for Apple's devices. The best-selling case color of all time? We heard from multiple companies, including iFrogz, that you can always bet on black. But iFrogz' cases come in a bevy of colors -- "you need something to attract the

UnityRemote brings a universal, customizable remote to iOS devices
Ever since Apple killed the Griffin IR remote on the original iPod I've been wanting to consolidate my iPod with a home theater remote. The iPhone seems perfect for this; with an infinitely variable canvas available, you could theoretically do anything with your remote.
The trouble is getting an IR signal to your components. The UnityRemote from Gear4 solves this problem by connecting your iPhone to a small cylindrical IR beamer via Bluetooth. We didn't get much of a chance to try it

Wall Street Journal confirms iPhone coming to Verizon
Rumors of the iPhone coming to Verizon are almost as old as the iPhone itself, and earlier today we heard about a Verizon event next week, cleverly timed for 11 AM on 1/11/11.
That set off speculation across the Internet, but we paid special attention to when the Wall Street Journal confirmed the rumor, citing "a person familiar with the matter." The WSJ has a solid history and isn't prone to confirming without good sources, so it seems a sure thing at this point.

4i at CES 2011: iPhone keyboard, iPad strap and an iPod nano wristband
We first saw the 4i keyboard for iPhone at Macworld. Back then, you had to "install" it, but the company has learned this isn't optimal and has created a clever case that we got to see at CES 2011 today (one quite similar to Apple's bumper) with a slot for easily adding the overlay keyboard in portrait or landscape mode. 4i has also added to the lineup with a clever iPad strap and iPod nano wristband named the Torq made out of titanium or steel. You can check out all the new gear on the 4i

Apple puts the freeze on retail employee vacations
AppleInsider reports that Apple Retail has issued a freeze on employee vacations beginning the last week of this month. The freeze reportedly bars any Apple Retail employee without seniority from taking vacation during a three-week period. The vacation freeze is expected to expire by the beginning of the third week of February.
So what could this rumored vacation freeze mean? It's possible there will soon be an announcement from Apple introducing a new product, and Apple wants its stores fully

Review: Shadow Guardian for iPhone
Run, jump, climb, shoot, and duck for cover. With Shadow Guardian by Gameloft, the iOS finally gets a vibrant, full, swashbuckling-fun action-adventure game. You play as Jason Call, and the fate of the world rests upon your shoulders. Mercenaries battle you for control of an ancient relic, the Prima Materia in this third person action title. Drawing inspiration from the Uncharted and Tomb Raider series, Shadow Guardian is a moderately successful attempt to bring treasure hunting action to the
Cobra iRadar on the CES 2011 show floor
We liked the idea of the iRadar when we first heard about it, and Cobra put the device front and center at its CES 2011 booth (well, right next to the girls in skimpy police uniforms). The iRadar is a radar detector that hooks right up to Cobra's official iPhone app, and will not only alert you when you see speed radar units out on the road, but will also tune in to two different services. "Aura" is Cobra's own service that keeps a "verified" database of red light cameras and speed traps,

Why AT&T won’t be getting an LTE iPhone 4G this year either…
AT&T isn’t getting an LTE iPhone 4G any time soon but they are launching 4G, in fact — look up, look down — they just did! Actually, what they did was call HSPA+ “4G” because it goes faster than regular old HSPA 3G and because T-Mobile is already doing that and Sprint is calling WiMax “4G”, and Verizon is calling early LTE “4G”, so why not? And when real LTE 4G comes out, that could be called 4G as well (though I bet they’ll call it 5G to have even more Gs, because
DocScanner successfully trasitions from iOS to Mac app

Apple's UK prices rise after VAT increase
Several European countries saw their online Apple stores go down for several hours earlier today, with the familiar yellow sticky note greeting customers in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and others. Some speculated this meant a new product launch, but stores in Asia/Pacific and North America remained up all day. It turns out that in at least one country, the UK, something new did debut on the Apple Store today: higher prices. The increase in the UK's value-added tax (VAT) from

Apple patent describes touch gestures on iPod nano
Could "no-look" touch gestures be coming soon to the iPod nano? Recently discovered by ipodnn, a 2009 patent application by Apple shows that it is looking into letting users control their devices using no-look gestures which only require a touch-sensitive surface like a trackpad and not necessarily a graphic interface as Apple currently employs on the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Bioserie bioplastic iPhone 4 cases: Review and giveaway
Is there a better way to start a new year than to get an innovative new case for your iPhone 4?
Bioserie recently sent TUAW two of their iPhone 4 cases to review and give away to our readers. As you know, we get a lot of different iPhone and iPad cases to test, so what makes these different? iPad 2 will ship with… which version of iOS?
Apple is widely expected to introduce iPad 2 sometime in the next few months and, if they follow the same yearly cycle they have for iPhone and iPod touch, ship it in April 2011 running iOS… what exactly? iOS 4.2 still? A new iOS 4.3? Last year iPad was unveiled running iOS 3.2 (then called iPhone OS 3.2). iPhone was running iOS 3.1, and iOS 3.2 looked similar yet at the same time as fresh and new as iPad itself. The same only bigger and in some ways, better. Background wallpaper and home

CES 2011 starts in just a few days and once again the iPad competitors are lining up to take a shot at Apple’s breakthrough tablet. I say “once again” because last year, even before Apple had announced the iPad, rumor of it alone was enough to get Steve Ballmer on stage showing off a Windows-powered HP Slate, and to line the halls with all sorts of in-development tablets based on Android, Linus, etc.
