Even though the iPhone 5's aluminum backing removed the odds of shattering the glass by 50%, some people will always be on the wrong side of the odds. These are those people. Those poor, unfortunate, unlucky souls who have already broken their brand new iPhone 5 after only a week.
I don't want to jinx myself here—I'm totally jinxing myself here—but I've never been on the other end of a shattered iPhone before. But I do know that anytime I drop that slippery soap of a phone, I get that huge sinking feeling that's similar to heartbreak. I feel for you guys.

Why the iPhone 5 is Too Radical - cultofmac.com
You’ve heard the collective judgement by the tech echo chamber: The new iPhone was just like the old iPhone, only taller.
The iPhone 5 is boring. Apple is too conservative. They didn’t really change the phone, but only made minor tweaks.
And that’s what’s wrong with the iPhone 5: It’s just not radical enough.
Here’s the problem: The echo chamber not only got this wrong, they got it backward.
The trouble with the iPhone 5 is that it’s too much, too soon.
Let me explain.
The Apple Way
The iPhone 5 is considered to be an iterative upgrade because it failed to live up to our unmoored fantasies about what Apple should have

Because the iPhone 5 just released, it seems like the iPad Mini rumor mill has gotten a little quiet. A little too quiet, if you ask me. Don't worry though, the leaks will continue to come. Like this video, which shows off the small size of the rumored iPad Mini.
The video is just a mockup of the rumored iPad Mini but it definitely looks to be in line with everything we've seen so far. The bezel is narrower on the vertical sides of the iPad Mini, the new Lightning port is on the bottom of the device and though it looks a little thick, it

In a wide-ranging report on Apple’s Taiwan supply chain, the Mercury News reports on the incredible sway Apple has over the manufacturing markets in Asia. One little part of the story was notable, however:
An Apple engineer called to inquire about TeamChem’s new conductive adhesive technology that, among other things, would allow chips to be mounted directly on an iPhone circuit board, eliminating the need for tiny sockets. This would lower manufacturing costs, increase the speed in which the devices roll off assembly lines and allow them to be even thinner. The adhesive, which has yet to be mass produced, could also be used on flexible circuit

Kickstarter is a place I regularly turn to for hardware accessories, mostly because I’m often bored by the safe bets being put out there by the general crop of hardware makers. But all too often lately, I find myself running into a problem, one that seems endemic to the Kickstarter way of doing things: accessories I back are often useless by the time they ship.
Case in point: I received my Une Bobine today (pictured). It’s an articulating iPhone charge and sync cable that’s strong enough to hold the iPhone 3GS, 4 or 4S aloft so that you can use it as an additional

iPhone 5 Even Faster Than Originally Reported, Due To Updated Benchmarking Software - cultofmac.com

The iPhone 5 runs on an Apple-designed A6 chip, which has been widely reported as running at 1.0GHz. The software that performed that analysis, Geekbench, was recently updated to an iOS 6-enabled version, and the iPhone 5 was tested again. Turns out that the A6 CPU dual-cores are actually running at 1.3GHz, which is a bit faster than previously thought.

THe current 1.3GHz number comes right from the latest iOS 6 build of Geekbench, the iOS benchmarking software generally accepted as the authority on these things. In a post at Engadget, this later build is described by Primate Labs‘ John Poole as “a dramatically improved

Apple's A6 CPU actually clocked at around 1.3GHz, per new Geekbench report - engadget.com As the initial wave of iPhone 5 reviews hit, it looked as if Apple's dual-core A6 processor was sporting a clock speed of around 1GHz. We saw reports (and confirmed with our own handset) ranging between 1.00 and 1.02GHz, but a new Geekbench build (v2.3.6) has today revealed a horse of a different color. According to Primate Labs' own John Poole, the latest version of the app -- which landed on the App Store today -- "features a dramatically improved processor frequency detection algorithm, which consistently reports the A6's frequency as 1.3GHz." In speaking with us, he affirmed that "earlier versions of Geekbench had trouble determining the

The new Lightning connector is 80% smaller than the 30-pin version, and it has a much better name than “30-pin dock connector.” But in many other regards, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for consumers. Dustin Curtis, creator of Svbtle, was curious to see how the new iPhone 5 stacked up with a DSLR and though of course the Canon 5D Mark III trounces the iPhone 5 in every which way, the surprising thing is that the iPhone 5's camera doesn't completely embarrass itself. To take a closer look at the

Wahoo Fitness introduces RFLKT: an iPhone-powered bike computer that lets handsets stay in pockets - engadget.com Sure, you can turn your smartphone into a bike computer, but if you'd rather not put your pricey piece of tech anywhere near harm's way, Wahoo Fitness' RFLKT Bike Computer offers an alternative. Instead of packing all the brains, the device sits atop a bicycle's handlebar and displays data it's fed via Bluetooth 4.0 from cycling apps running on an iPhone 4S or 5. At launch, the hardware will support the firm's own Cyclemeter application and Wahoo Fitness App which can monitor ride information ranging from location to speed, in addition to heart rate with additional accoutrement. Apple's new, buggy maps have been getting a lot of negative attention recently, but talk is cheap. Even with all that whining, iOS 6 has proven to be the most quickly adopted version of the operating system, 122 percent faster than its predecessor iOS 5. Where it took iOS 5 five days to gain a 20 percent share of traffic, it took iOS 6 just over one day.
There are, of course, a number of factors at play. The fact that users could update to iOS 6 over the air made it that much easier to move on to the next version. In addition to that, all

iPhone 5 Jailbroken According To iOS Hacker @chpwn - techcrunch.com

@iamramsey It’s jailbroken, what kind of proof do you need?—
Grant Paul (chpwn) (@chpwn) September 22, 2012

Jailbreaking allows users to add “homebrew” apps to the iPhone and is a method to install pirated apps onto an activated iPhone. It also potentially allows uses to unlock their iPhones to run on different carriers.
What does this mean? Well, the homebrew and unlocker scene just got a little more interested in the

iOS / Mac Dev. creates MAME arcade machine powered by an iPhone - 9to5mac.comPatrick McCarron is an iOS and Mac developer with an avid passion for video games. Patrick set out to make his own MAME arcade cabinet and planned to use an older Mac Mini to power it but came up with the idea to use an iDevice to save time and resources. You can see the entire parts list on his blog, but the main components are the Arcade cabinet, iCade, iDevice (A4 Chip or greater) and the Apple iPad VGA connector. The arcade cabinet and monitor are obviously the most costly parts, the rest can be had for around $100.
Patrick dissected an iCade machine and repurposed it’s control mechanism and battery system. The control was transplanted to the

Watch Apple’s First iPhone 5 TV Ads: “Physics”, “Cheese”, “Thumb” and “Ears” - techcrunch.com
Apple’s making commercials again, but this time they’re really really good. If you’re not sold on picking up an iPhone 5 yet, these ads spotted by Macstories will probably get you stoked.
Each ad has a theme and a one word name. The ads show off different capabilities of the iPhone 5, and I must say that they’re extremely compelling. Have a look:
Physics

Cheese

Thumb

Ears

My favorite one definitely has to be “Thumb”, as it shows off Apple’s genius marketing and ability to explain the complex in a simple way. Well done, Apple.
Also, I’m not surprised that “Maps” wasn’t released as an ad.

The first three iPhone 5 (and Earpod) ads hit: Thumbs, Physics, Cheese and Ears - 9to5mac.com.
It sounds like the first iPhone 5 ads are narrated by Jeff Daniels of Dumb and Dumber and Newsroom fame.
Thumbs shows how the 4 inch screen is tailored to the windshield -wiper motion of your thumb.

Cheese shows the new panorama feature with a comic “cheeeeeeee *breath* eeese”

Two more and a poll below:

Physics asks how the iPhone can get smaller (thickness) and bigger (screen size). OK, that’s not hard to figure out.

And finally EarPods get their own little commercial…

iPhone 5 jailbroken, but not yet ready for public consumption - engadget.com You knew that the hackers of the world would be anxious to jailbreak their fresh new iPhone 5's, and the feat's been accomplished just a day after older hardware running iOS 6 was similarly set free. Grant Paul posted the picture you see above on Twitter, confirming his new, elongated iPhone is, indeed, running Cydia. Unfortunately, the jailbreak isn't available to the rest of us just yet, but it shouldn't be long before the masses gain access, too. Viva la liberté!
